Life Sciences Week 2010 in Basel

The Basel region is one of the main locations for the pharmaceutical, chemical and life sciences industries in Europe. ILMAC takes this fact into account and is much more than just an exhibition for the chemical industry. The variety of events being held at the same time as ILMAC, from 20 to 24 September, will transform Basel into a Mecca for European life sciences specialists. These events include MipTec, the Scientific Forum of the Swiss Chemical Society, the BioValley Life Sciences Week and the scientific symposium in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Friedrich Miescher Institute.
Basel is home to the largest and most active pharmaceutical, chemical and biotech cluster in Europe. Nowhere else is there such a high concentration of talent and knowledge. No other region is as dynamic and productive in business terms. More than 900 companies from the life sciences industry are based in Basel, ranging from successful international organisations to ambitious spin-offs and start-ups. This represents approximately 40% of the global life sciences industry. Around 28,000 people are employed in this sector in and around Basel and between 1000 and 2000 new jobs are created every year. The companies in the industry have a total annual turnover of more than 100 billion dollars and a profit of almost 20 billion dollars. The average growth rate over recent years has been 7.1%.

There is no question that Basel is the ideal location for ILMAC, the only industry exhibition for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries which presents all the industrial applications of process engineering, from research and development to production and environmental technology. ILMAC has a strong user focus and is aimed at specialists from the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, drinks, cosmetics and biotechnology industries. The most recent ILMAC in 2007 attracted as many as 15,000 visitors.

ILMAC, which takes place from 21 to 24 September 2010, will gain added importance as a meeting place for the industry, because, together with its accompanying activities, it forms part of Basel Life Sciences Week 2010, a unique platform consisting of a variety of scientific and technical events on an international scale.
